The housing is pre-painted, but may develop (structurally harmless) surface rust. This is not a defect in its original application as industrial lighting. The light primer allows the cast body to be painted to suit individual preferences and protects it from rust. The lampshade is made of pressed glass and is secured and protected by a wire cage. These lights are also available in a stainless steel version with a Bakelite base. However, the base, made of an average of 5 mm thick cast iron, remains unsurpassed in terms of stability.
